 Fall 2007 Chestnut Burr |
Our Delmarvelous chestnuts are offered as first year seedlings. They are the open pollinated seed from chestnut trees grown here at our orchard. Delmarvelous chestnuts tend to be larger than typical Chinese chestnut types. While not quite as large as some of the European varieties of chestnut, our variety is perfect for planting in the East due to its chestnut blight resistance. Our chestnuts are sweet with a full flavored taste. The biggest distinction is the inner skin. The inner skin does not stick to the nutmeat. This means when you roast your chestnuts, you'll get all sweet tasting nutmeat, not a mouthful of bitter pith stuck to the meat.
Chestnut trees are extremely hardy and require little in the way of care and maintenance. Given a full sun position, soil with good drainage and adequate moisture, your Delmarvelous Chestnut seedling will thrive. We recommend staking for stability and tree shelters if deer are a big problem. Until the tree is well established, you should monitor for leaf-eating insects. Chestnut trees are well adapted to be grown organically.
Below is email from one of our satisfied customers:
"I want to thank you for the service and for the quality of trees shipped. We planted the trees upon arrival, they are now in full green out (leafing). The size of each tree was above my expectations. It is great knowing that someone still has integrity of supplying quality at a reasonable price...This was a refreshing experience."

Our trees are shipped to you bare-root with complete planting directions. Since we ship bare-root, WE ONLY SHIP TREES IN THE SPRING. Chestnuts are considered self-sterile, so you need at least two trees for pollination.
We're sorry, but we can not ship our trees or seed nuts to Canada or into a quarantined area. California is a quarantined state for chestnuts. If you have a question about your local quarantines, please consult your local agricultural department or county agent.
Orders are filled on a first come first served basis and quantities are strictly limited. We will ship your trees UPS ground unless priority shipping is contracted for.
Delmarvelous Chestnut Trees are shipped in the spring and are $8.00 each plus shipping and handling. Shipping and handling for 10 trees is $14.00. For larger orders call us at 302-659-1731 or click here to send e-mail to us. Click here to buy trees via our secure form.
